BEACH CLEANING WITH THE ECOMAR FOUNDATION
Last Monday, May 8, we had the pleasure of collaborating in a beach cleanup together with the Ecomar Foundation. They carry out regular cleanups around different Spanish coasts, and taking advantage of the fact that they were coming through Barcelona, we met at Forum Beach.
We met at 10:30 a.m., where we first did a short briefing and a “Blue Workshop”, where they reminded us how we should separate the different waste. We then organized ourselves into groups and got to work cleaning. After just over an hour, we returned to the meeting point, where we collected and weighed all the collected waste. And…Surprise! 84.3 kg of garbage collected, on a beach where apparently everything looked clean. It should be noted that among plastics, packaging, papers, etc., what was most abundant were the famous sanitary wipes and, of course, an incredible amount of cigarette butts. At the end of the event, we took a group photo and were invited to a delicious brunch to regain our strength.
The big surprise of the event was having the presence of Theresa Zabell, founder and president of the Ecomar Foundation, and the only Spanish woman to have won two Olympic Golds in her sporting past. We want to thank all the members of the Ecomar Foundation for the great work they do for our seas and for allowing us to be part of it.
Finally, we want to convey this reflection to you: “Take care of the only two places from which you will never be able to move, your body and your planet.”
